Console Table Styling

Ahh the console table—a beautiful piece to have in your home but ever so tricky to style! We receive so many questions on how to style a console table or entry table. How do you choose the right accessories and decor without making it feel cluttered? It’s easy to buy things just because they’re ‘cute’ but when it comes to finding a place for them, you get frustrated. Styling console tables can take a little time, even for us! Here are our tips on how to tackle the ever-challenging console table:

  1. Think SIMPLE. One of the biggest misconceptions about styling a console table is that you have to fill every square inch of it with ‘stuff.’ This leads to a very cluttered, overwhelming look. Simple is always okay!

  2. Be thoughtful about the pieces you choose to use. Again, try not to buy things just because they’re cute or trendy. If your home or style isn’t farmhouse, don’t buy farmhouse decor because it’s popular and you think you need to use it. Think about items in your home that are special to you or have sentimental value. Maybe it’s a certain photograph or a family heirloom, even a favorite book. Use those! They’ll bring you so much joy when you walk past the space and those special pieces really help your house feel like home.

  3. Shop your own home. We bet you have more decor pieces in your home than you realize! Pull out those special pieces like we talked about and grab some coffee table books you already have. You might even have some baskets, candles and greenery handy!

  4. Incorporate various heights and textures. This is important to styling a console table because you need the different dimensions to fill the space. Thing woven pieces, pottery, glass, wood and metals. Try to find objects that are different heights and widths; short, tall, wide, narrow.

  5. Hang something on the wall above the table. This can be a large piece of art, a large mirror or a gallery wall of photos or prints!

  6. Greenery! Please add greenery of some kind! They don’t necessarily have to be green, you could do some natural grasses or neutral stems but you need some natural texture.

  7. Add a candle. Whether you’re just relaxing at home or entertaining company, you’ll want something to make your house smell good and the candle can serve as pretty decor.

  8. Lastly, take your time styling! Sometimes you need to walk away and take a break from decorating so you can come back with fresh eyes. You don’t have to get it right the first time and we promise you’ll constantly be changing things up!
